Nov 9-Nov 13: Prescott

We finally rolled into Prescott and met back up with our friends late in the day on Wednesday. It wasn't until Thursday morning that we were able to see how much the landscape had changed, even though we had only traveled a little more than an hour from the red rocks of Sedona. Prescott is only 1000' higher in elevation, but has much more of a mountain town feel. The trees are more plentiful and taller, and the mountains are more triangular.

Prescott looked more like what I expect a "mountain" to look like. Except these mountains appeared to be made up of a bunch of big round boulders all piled up together.

Mike and Rudy pose under a juniper tree. All the big boulders are HUGE and kept the terrain interesting.

Cow gates are a normal sight in Prescott, where cattle roam freely on the BLM land.

View from my van. A boondocking site in the Prescott Nation Forest overlooking Thumb Butte.

A little buddy! We found this little lizard in our firepit and had to keep shooing him away from the hot rocks.

One of our favorite boondocking sites - lots of big boulders and trees to keep things interesting, and only 50ft from a trailhead!

The alligator junipers were easily recognizable due to their deep scaly bark patterns. These trees can grow for hundreds of years.

...next stop: Sedona again!
